Tummy Tuck for Men

“Six-pack abs” are highly desired among men. But age, heredity, and other factors can keep a chiseled midsection just beyond your reach, no matter how much you eat right and exercise.

Now men in Baltimore, MD, and surrounding communities can achieve the ultimate toned abdominal area with a tummy tuck from double board certified and fellowship-trained plastic surgeon Dr. Steven J. Rottman.

What Is Tummy Tuck Surgery?

Tummy tuck surgery has long been considered a woman’s cosmetic procedure. Over recent years, however, Dr. Rottman has perfected a technique that brings the benefits of tummy tucks to his male patients. By adapting the surgery to enhance the natural contours of a man’s midsection, Dr. Rottman achieves a toned, ripped, masculine appearance.

Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery

Men gain fat primarily around their midsections. Living an active lifestyle can help keep the area toned. Eventually, though, age catches up, and men are left with fatty bulges on their stomachs, as well as the dreaded “love handles.” These small areas of fat are the most difficult to eliminate through diet and exercise. In fact, for many men, it is practically impossible.

How Is Tummy Tuck Surgery Performed?

The procedure for your tummy tuck depends on the location and amount of fat on your abdomen. In most cases, men accumulate fat in both the lower and upper abdominal areas, as well as on their sides (i.e., love handles). For these men, Dr. Rottman uses a long incision that extends from hip bone to hip bone. The incision follows the pubic line, so the scar is hidden with underwear. Some men, however, may only have fat in their lower abdomens. In these cases, Dr. Rottman uses a smaller, but still significant, incision.

Once the incision is made, Dr. Rottman works carefully to reposition fat, tighten muscles, and remove extra skin and fat. He may also use liposuction to finely sculpt the contours of your abdomen. The incisions are closed, and your abdomen is wrapped with a compression bandage.

Preparing for Tummy Tuck Surgery

Men who undergo tummy tuck surgery are required to make arrangements for someone to drive them to and from our office, as well as assist them during the initial recovery. Certain health conditions and medications may place you at greater risk for any surgery. Dr. Rottman may order pre-surgical testing to ensure your health is good.

Recovery from Tummy Tuck Surgery

You need to limit your activities for at least seven days after your tummy tuck. This includes staying home from work, avoiding exercise and lifting, and resting. You will have bruising, swelling, and discomfort for a few days. Strenuous activities should be avoided for up to three weeks.
