Liposuction in Baltimore, MD
Many men and women have fat that simply will not go away, even with proper diet and exercise. As a result, they have bulges in otherwise toned bodies. Double board certified and fellowship-trained plastic surgeon Dr. Steven J. Rottman offers liposuction to help the men and women of Baltimore, MD, and surrounding communities have the best bodies possible.
What Is Liposuction?
Due to its ability to improve one’s self-image and confidence by contouring the body into a slimmer, shapelier figure, liposuction surgery has become the most popular type of cosmetic procedure in the United States. Liposuction techniques have improved over the years, and Dr. Rottman offers his patients the highest quality treatments with minimal tissue damage and recovery. The results are consistent and beautiful!
Liposculpture refers to a technique in which Dr. Rottman removes and sculpts fat in a particular area of the body to produce a more desirable contour. This procedure is particularly popular with men who wish to make their muscles look sleeker and better defined. Liposculpture is also easier to perform when producing contours that are typically considered masculine. After liposculpture, the muscles, such as the abdominal muscles, oblique’s, and pectorals, appear flatter, larger, and more defined. One advantage of liposculpture over traditional liposuction is the reduced risk of unevenness or lumpiness beneath the skin as well as loose skin once the fat is removed.
Benefits of Liposuction
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy, reshapes and streamlines areas of the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas such as the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, upper arms, chin, cheeks, and neck. Liposuction is not a substitute for healthy diet and exercise; however, it can eliminate stubborn areas of fat that don’t seem to respond to traditional weight-loss methods. Refinements to the procedure during the past decade have helped provide more precise results and shorter recovery times.
Unfortunately, liposuction cannot address issues such as cellulite or sagging skin; therefore, liposuction is often combined with other procedures to lift and tighten tissues or remove excess skin. Procedures commonly performed in conjunction with liposuction are facelifts, neck lifts, breast reductions, and abdominoplasties.
By removing excess fat and skin, Dr. Rottman is able to give you smoother, sexier curves. To see how the procedure has helped our patients, browse our liposuction before and after pictures.
How Is Liposuction Performed?
During the liposuction procedure, a narrow tube or cannula is inserted through tiny incisions to break apart and vacuum the fat layer that lies beneath the skin. A vacuum pump or large syringe is then used to suction out the loosened fat.
Preparing for Liposuction
Liposuction can be performed as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with another procedure, such as a tummy tuck. The procedure may require general or local anesthesia. Dr. Rottman may not recommend liposuction if you have certain medical conditions or are taking certain medications. He may order blood work and other tests to ensure the procedure is safe for you.
Recovery from Liposuction
Following your surgery it is normal to have some swelling and fluid retention. A small drainage tube may be inserted beneath the skin to prevent fluid buildup and a compression garment should be worn to reduce swelling. You will be able to see a noticeable difference in the shape of your body soon after your surgery and you will be able to fully enjoy your new, sleeker contours after about three months. The scars from liposuction are small and strategically placed to be hidden from view. Liposuction can permanently reduce your fatty tissue if you are committed to eating well and engaging in physical activity. However, significant weight gain can reverse the results of the procedure.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost?
Liposuction is an effective treatment for many areas of the body. As such, the cost varies according to the body site being treated, the extent of fat removal, and any other surgeries you may have at the same time. We work with CareCredit® to offer our patients convenient monthly payments for their liposuction and other plastic surgery procedures. To learn more, please visit our financing page.
Is Liposuction Right for Me?
Liposuction is not a replacement for diet and exercise. If you follow a healthy schedule of exercise and eat properly, yet still have stubborn areas of fat, liposuction may be right for you.
