Liposculpture refers to a technique where Dr. Rottman removes and sculpts fat in a particular area of the body to produce a more desirable contour. This procedure is particularly popular with men who wish to make their muscles look sleeker and better defined. Liposculpture is also is easier to perform when producing contours that are typically considered masculine. After liposculpture, the muscles, such as the abdominal muscles, obliques and pectorals, appear flatter, larger and more defined. One advantage of liposculpture over traditional liposuction is the reduced risk of unevenness or lumpiness beneath the skin as well as loose skin once the fat is removed.
During the liposculpture procedure, a narrow tube or cannula is inserted through tiny incisions and used to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula is moved in a gentle back-and-forth direction to break up the cells and loosen the fat. A vacuum pump or large syringe is then used to suction the liquefied fat.
Following your surgery it is normal to have some swelling and fluid retention. A small drainage tube may be inserted beneath the skin in order to prevent fluid build-up and you should wear a compression garment in order to reduce swelling. You will be able to see a noticeable difference in the shape of your body very soon after your surgery and you will be able to fully enjoy your new, sleeker contours after about three months.
The scars from liposculpture are small and strategically placed to be hidden from view. Liposculpture can permanently reduce your fatty tissue if you continue to eat well and engage in physical activity. However, significant weight gain can reverse the results of the procedure.
